President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe as Chairman of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).
This was revealed in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Sunday.
The appointment of the former Kwara Central Senator will be for an initial term of four years.
The communique also stated that Oloriegbe’s appointment took effect on March 11, 2025.
Oloriegbe represented the Kwara Central Senatorial District at the 9th Senate of the National Assembly.
”He holds a Master’s in Coaching and Consultation from the University of Oxford, UK, and HEC, Paris, and a Bachelor’s of Medicine and Surgery from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State.”
”He is a member of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria (AGPMPN), Nigeria Veneral Disease Association, Guild of Medical Directors of Nigeria, International Aids Society (IAS), and the Africa Health Leadership and Management Network,” it also read.
Oloriegbe served as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health from 2019 to 2023 and the Chairman of the Joint National Assembly Committee on Health.

Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky says most regions of the country were recently attacked by the Russian Army.
He said about 1,310 Russian guided aerial bombs, over 1,000 attack drones mostly “Shaheds”, and 9 missiles of various types, including ballistic ones, were launched into Ukraine in the past one week.
Zelensky, who confirmed this in a statement on his official X handle on Sunday, however, said a significant number of the weapons “were successfully shot down by our air defense warriors, mobile fire groups, and all units involved in protecting our skies”.
Confirming Saturday’s strike on Kharkiv, Zelensky said the attack “sadly took the lives of two people”.
Zelensky noted that Russia is dragging out the war, adding that Ukraine will continue to provide its “partners with full information on the strikes the Russian army is carrying out and the actions it is preparing for”.
“We expect a response from the United States, Europe and all our allies to this terror against our people,” he added.
The president thanked “all the leaders and states who understand this and continue their support”, stressing that the “stability and predictability of support for Ukraine are crucial”.

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has urged the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas “to immediately withdraw the oppressive bill which contains repressive provisions to jail any Nigerian of voting age for six months and/or impose a fine of N100,000 on them if they fail to vote in national and state elections.”
SERAP urged Mr Akpabio and Mr Abbas to instead “amend the Nigerian Constitution 1999 [as amended] and the Electoral Act 2022 to remove constitutional immunity for state governors and their deputies who commit electoral offences, including vote-buying, to facilitate the investigation and prosecution of perpetrators.”
SERAP also urged Mr Akpabio and Mr Abbas “to amend the Nigerian Constitution and the Electoral Act to explicitly prohibit the appointment of members of any political party as resident electoral commissioners (RECs) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).”
There is currently in the National Assembly a ‘Bill for an Act to Amend the Electoral Act 2022 to Make It Mandatory for All Nigerians of Majority Age to Vote in All National and State Elections and for Related Matters.’ The bill seeks to make voting compulsory and prescribes a six-month jail term or a fine of N100,000 or both for non-compliance.
In the letter dated 29 March 2025 and signed by SERAP deputy director Kolawole Oluwadare, the organisation said: “Jailing eligible Nigerians for deciding not to vote would be entirely inconsistent and incompatible with the letter and spirit of the Nigerian Constitution and the country’s international human rights obligations.”
SERAP said, “Rather than proposing bills that would severely punish Nigerians who may decide not to exercise their right to vote, the National Assembly ought to propose bills to remove constitutional immunity for governors and their deputies who commit electoral offences and undermine the integrity of the electoral process.”
According to SERAP, “The most effective way to solve the perennial voter apathy is to create a safe and conducive environment, combat the impunity of high-ranking politicians who commit electoral offences, and generally improve the electoral process to encourage the citizens to come out to vote, and not to send them to jail.”
The letter, read in part: “Should the National Assembly fails to drop the bill prescribing a six-month jail term for eligible Nigerians who decide not to vote in national and state elections, and should any such bill be assented to by President Bola Tinubu, SERAP would consider appropriate legal action to challenge the legality of any such law and ensure they are never implemented.”
“The idea of compulsory voting and jailing citizens for not voting is impracticable, unnecessary and unlawful. The right to vote is part of citizens’ right to participate in their own government and the choice of whether to exercise it is personal.”
“The right to vote includes the right not to vote. If the right to participation is a right of the citizen, she/he must be free to decide whether or not to exercise it.”
“Because the notion of a democracy exists by virtue of the consent of the citizens, voters must get to choose how they exercise consent, not be forced to the polls like ‘cattle to the slaughter.’”
“The National Assembly ought to propose bills to reduce the influence of money in politics, and encourage and not compel the exercise of the right to participation.”
“The proposed bill is a blatant violation of the right to political participation, which is guaranteed under section 14(1)(c) of the Nigerian Constitution, article 25 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and article 13 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights to which Nigeria is a state party.”
“SERAP also urges you to amend the Nigerian Constitution and the Electoral Act to include explicit mandatory provisions on internet voter registration, and the use of modern technology, including in casting and counting, voter registration and systems for reporting results.”
“Amending the Nigerian Constitution and the Electoral Act to explicitly include the right of eligible Nigerians to vote and to vote securely would enhance the effective enjoyment of their right political participation and representative democracy.”
“It would rebuild public confidence in the ability of the National Assembly to effectively perform its constitutional responsibilities.”
“Any amendment of the Nigerian Constitution and the Electoral Act must include bills to address and punish governors and their deputies and their agents who commit electoral offences including voter suppression, voter intimidation and the destruction of polling units or theft of election materials.”
“It is important for the National Assembly to introduce and pass bills that would effectively rein politicians who continue to abuse the electoral rules to distort and undermine the right to participation with almost absolute impunity.”

“The major problem facing the country’s democracy is the lack of respect for Nigerians’ right to participation and the concomitant lack of trust in election results. Monday Okpebholo, governor of Edo, has suspended Friday Ibadin, commander of the Edo State Security Corps, over the killing of 16 hunters in the Uromi area of the state.
In a statement released by the secretary to the state government on Saturday, Okpebholo also ordered the suspension of illegal vigilante groups operating in the state.
On Thursday, a mob in the Uromi area of Edo killed 16 hunters of northern descent who were travelling from Elele, Rivers state.
The police had said the hunters were killed after a local vigilante group, who mistook them for kidnappers, found 19 locally fabricated firearms in their possession.
President Bola Tinubu had ordered the police and security agencies to swiftly investigate and bring the perpetrators to justice.
In the statement, the Edo governor said the vigilante group that carried out the act was not registered or profiled under the state security corps.
“It is to be reiterated that the local vigilante group involved in the gruesome killing of 27th March was operating illegally as it was never profiled or registered with Edo State Security Corps,” the statement reads.
“Its actions do not reflect the core values, character and principles of the Okpebholo administration, or the objectives of the corps as enshrined in the Edo State Security Corps Governance Law.
“Investigations into the killings are on-going and fourteen (14) persons have been arrested so far, while there is an intense manhunt for others involved in the gruesome killing by a special team set up by the Inspector General of Police.
“The Government of Edo State reiterates its belief in the constitutionally guaranteed rights of citizens to move freely or engage in lawful business in any part of the country.
“In the meantime, the Government is in touch with families of the victims, community leaders and the Government of Kano State where most of the deceased are reported to hail from.
“We urge all parties involved to remain calm as the State Government remains committed to ensuring that justice is done in a most efficient, transparent and proactive manner.”

Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, has lamented the unfortunate fire incident that occurred on Friday, March 28, 2025, at Ifejika Street, Sokoto Road, Onitsha, during which shops and goods worth millions of naira were burnt.
Governor Soludo extends his sincere sympathies to the affected traders and property owners impacted by this distressing event.
The unfortunate fire incident destroyed two four-story buildings and damaged a third. Thankfully, no lives were lost, though significant property and goods were lost.
However, the unfortunate incident underscores a re-emphasis on public caution against the use of residential areas as unauthorised warehouses, considering the fact that obstructed access roads severely hindered firefighting efforts from the information gathered.
Therefore, developers and landlords are strongly advised to adhere strictly to building standards, secure permits from relevant government agencies, and ensure no obstruction to access roads for emergency vehicles in case of distress
Meanwhile, Governor Soludo has directed relevant agencies to intensify collaboration with traders and residents to enforce safety regulations, while accelerated investigations are being carried out to determine the remote and immediate causes of the inferno to prevent future occurrences

Speaking to journalists at Abuja on Sunday on the ongoing constitutional electoral reforms, Mr Osita Okechukwu stated that without truly Independent National and State Electoral Commissions, (INEC & SIEC), which he termed Uwais Report’s Handgun on electoral reforms, no genuine electoral reforms.
“Whilst one commends the efforts of Messers Jibrin Barau, Benjamin Kalu, Salsiu Mustapha, Ikenga Ugochinyere and host of other Distinguished Senators and Honourable Members in their electoral reform bid; however there will be no genuine electoral reform without the Uwais Electoral Report’s Handgun - which is truly independent INEC & SIEC.”
Okechukwu appealed that 17 years after Uwais Report, it is high time Mr President, State Governors and National and State Assemblies members, should muster the political will to use the handgun of the report to deepen our democracy and catapult Nigeria to giant status.
He retorted that this will be achieved by amending the constitutional nomination process of INEC and SIEC as recommended by Uwais Report interalia:-
i) Advertise all positions, spelling out requisite Qualifications
ii)Receive Applications/Nominations from the General Public
iii) Shortlist 3 Persons for each position and
iv) Send to the National Council of State to select one from the Shortlist and forward to the Senate for Confirmation.
Okechukwu said that this crucial amendment will make INEC and SIEC truly independent and will ensure the highest quality and the highest standard of our general elections.
He opined that impartial INEC and SIEC will automatically wipe out negative electoral mindset from Nigerians, reduce apathy, minimise electoral violence and consign Professor Humphrey Nwosu’s June 12, 1999 to 2nd place.
Finally, he submitted that legacy of truly independent INEC and SIEC, will consolidate political culture of free, fair and transparent elections, entrench rule of law and progressive society; whereby President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s critics will be silenced and programs like financial autonomy of local government councils and regional development intervention commissions will flourish.
Nigerian Muslims today joined their counterparts worldwide to mark Eid-el-Fitri, which signifies the end of Ramadan.
The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, last night declared the end of the month-long fast and announced today, March 30, 2025 as equivalent to 1 Day of SHAWWAL 1446AH and Eid-el-Fitri day.
The Sultan, who is the president-general of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), said the decision followed the report of National Moon Sighting Committees across the country confirming sighting of the new moon in several places across Nigeria.
The Sultan felicitated with the Nigerian Muslim Ummah and wished them Allah’s guidance and blessings.
He also urged Muslim Ummah to continue to pray for peace, progress and development of the country, wished all Muslims well during and after the celebration.
He further enjoined Muslims to continue to pray for our leaders.
Ahead of the celebration, security was beefed up by the Police, the Nigeria Civil Defence and Security Corps (NSCDC) and sister agencies across the country to enable Muslims observe a hitch-free Eid-el-Fitri.
Also yesterday, Saudi Arabia confirmed the sighting of the new moon to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan and start of the next Islamic month of Shawwal.
With the new moon sighting, celebration of the Eid-el-Fitri will hold today, being the first date of Shawwal.
The moon sighting was officially reported on the Haramain Sharifain X platform.
Around 10 observatories were involved in the sighting of Shawwal moon in Saudi Arabia, according to Haramain Info, an official social media handle of the country’s religious authority.
Before the official announcement, the website pointed out that experts in Saudi Arabia were divided on the expected sighting of the Shawwal crescent.
While five recognised astronomical experts predicted the likely Eid al-Fitr date as Sunday, four others expected it to be observed on Monday.
Ramadan began in most parts of the world on March 1, after sighting the new moon.
Meanwhile, Muslims thronged major motor parks across the country yesterday, home-bound for the Sallah celebration.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) also deployed its men and officers on the highways to ensure smooth motoring during the celebration.
To ensure a peaceful Eid-el-Fitr celebration, the Kaduna State Police Command yesterday intensified security deployment across the state.
The command’s spokesperson DSP Mansir Hassan, in a statement he issued on behalf of the commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, directed all area commanders, divisional police officers (DPOs) and Tactical Units to strengthen patrols, surveillance and intelligence gathering in all parts of the state.
The measures, he said, are aimed at preventing any potential security threats and ensuring the safety of residents and visitors before, during and after the festive period.
The commissioner urged the residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with the police by reporting any suspicious activities through the command’s emergency lines: 0703967 5856, 08075391105.
In Kano State, the NSCDC command has deployed 3,256 personnel across the state to ensure a smooth Sallah festivity.
The spokesperson of the command, Ibrahim Abdullahi, said personnel would be mobilised around Eid praying grounds, recreational/event centres, markets, critical national assets and infrastructure among others to safeguard life and property.
“Personnel of the command have been briefed to work in conjunction and synergy with all the security agencies for a peaceful Sallah celebration. The good people of Kano are hereby advised to cooperate with the security agents while the festive season last for a peaceful and memorable Eid-el-Fitr,” Abdullahi said.
The FRSC deployed 1,889 personnel to ease traffic flow during the celebration in Kano.
The sector commander, Masa’udu Matazu, said the corps had deployed five ambulances, patrol vehicles, one heavy duty tow truck and other operational equipment to major routes and highways, to facilitate effective smooth operations.
According to him, Eid-el-Fitri special patrol operation will run from March 27 to April 2, as 1,348 regular marshals and 541 special marshals would ensure safe, smooth vehicular movement, traffic control and give prompt attention to victims of road traffic crashes.
Also, the Bauchi State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a safe and secure environment for all the residents as well as a hitch-free Eid-el-Fitr celebration.
The state police commissioner, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, assured the public of the command’s dedication to implementing robust security measures and fostering a conducive atmosphere for prayers throughout the state.
A statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, emphasised that the safety of life and property remains the police top priority.

The attention of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Rivers State Chapter, has been drawn to the recent press statement by Dr. George Nweke, the former Head of Service of Rivers State. While we acknowledge his right to express his opinions, we must categorically reject the baseless and misleading allegations made against the leadership of the NLC and Labour in general.
1. Labour's Commitment to Impartiality and Workers’ Welfare
The NLC is a non-partisan organization that remains dedicated to defending the rights and interests of workers in Rivers State and across Nigeria. It is highly irresponsible and mischievous for Dr. Nweke to insinuate that the leadership of Labour in Rivers State has been compromised or is engaging in political partisanship. The NLC, under the leadership of its State Chairman, has at all times acted in the best interest of workers without undue political influence. The Labour movement is driven by principles of fairness, transparency, and accountability, and we will not allow our integrity to be tarnished by baseless accusations.
2. False Allegations Against the NLC Chairman
Dr. Nweke’s claim that the NLC Chairman has been holding private meetings with the Governor and receiving financial inducements is outright false and defamatory. Such allegations are nothing more than an attempt to discredit the Labour movement and divert attention from the real issues affecting the state. The NLC leadership in Rivers State operates in full compliance with ethical standards and has consistently engaged with the government on legitimate labour matters, including workers' welfare, salary payments, and improved working conditions.
3. The Role of Labour in Democratic Governance
The NLC is an advocate for good governance, stability, and the rule of law. It is, therefore, disheartening that Dr. Nweke has chosen to malign the Labour movement by suggesting that it is being used for political maneuvering. If he has any credible evidence of wrongdoing, we challenge him to present it to the appropriate authorities rather than resort to unsubstantiated public statements aimed at inciting discord.
4. Labour’s Stance on the State of Emergency
The declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State is a matter of national discourse, and the NLC, like all stakeholders, has the right to express its position based on facts and the impact on workers. The Labour movement will always stand against any action that undermines the democratic rights of the people or leads to instability that affects workers and the general populace. Our position on this matter remains clear: the welfare of the workers and the citizens of Rivers State must be prioritized above political interests.
5. Call for Responsible Engagement
We urge Dr. Nweke and other political actors to refrain from dragging the NLC and its leadership into their political battles. The NLC will not be intimidated or coerced into taking sides in political disputes. Our primary responsibility is to the workers, and we will continue to champion their cause with integrity and accountability.
In conclusion, we advise the public to disregard the unfounded claims made by Dr. Nweke. The NLC remains committed to its mandate and will not be distracted by baseless accusations.

For two years, Jeannie Dillard has saved what she can on her fixed income to replace the vehicle that was stolen from her home and found totalled a few miles away.
She looked around a used car dealership in Virginia on Thursday, peering at sticker prices with a newfound worry: blanket tariffs on foreign cars and car parts that experts warn could drive up prices in the US, which kick in next week.
She'd like to buy a car now, she said, but "I have to wait until my finances improve".
Ms Dillard is among the plethora of Americans bracing for expected economic turbulence under President Donald Trump's sweeping auto tariffs - an unprecedented US trade policy manoeuvre.
"It took me a long time to save up for the last car," she said. "If prices get too high, I'm obviously not going to buy something that I can't afford."
She added: "We'll just have to wait and see."
On Wednesday, Trump announced new import taxes of 25% on cars and car parts entering the US from overseas, which go into effect on 2 April.
Charges on businesses importing vehicles are expected on 3 April, and taxes on parts are set to start in May or later.
Trump and members of his administration have argued that the tariffs will lead to "tremendous growth" and increase jobs in the US.
But experts and automakers have warned in dire terms that tariffs could raise prices for US consumers, amplifying the stress of an already sluggish economy.
Mohamad Husseini, co-owner of a used car dealership in Maryland, said that he expects the additional tariff costs to get passed on to the consumer.
"The prices in the wholesale market have skyrocketed already," he told the BBC.
"It's going to get worse."
A car that would sell for $13,000 (£10,000) might rise to $14,500 (£11,200) because of the tariffs, Mr Husseini said. He predicted that consumers will see prices increase in the next three to six weeks.
The auto tariffs will likely force car dealers like Mr Husseini to raise prices.
"We all still have bills to pay, mouths to feed and employees to pay," he said.
At another car dealership, Robin Sloan was hoping to get a deal before prices increased.
She said she probably would have waited until the summer to go car shopping, but "with the tariffs, I decided I should go out and look now".
She rejected the Trump administration's claim that tariffs will cause Americans to buy US cars instead of foreign ones.
"I don't think I would buy a car made in the United States just because of the tariffs, I think I would probably wait a few years until things settle down," Ms Sloan said.
From buyers to dealers, the effects of the tariffs will be widespread, for better or for worse, experts say.
In the US, there are 908 motor vehicles per 1,000 people. About 92% of households own a vehicle.
Car ownership is typically higher in the US than in Europe, surveys suggest, partly because, in the absence of extensive public transport, many Americans have no other choice of how to get around.
Cars are also more than just a means of transportation. As symbols of both freedom and success, cars have a unique place in the national identity, from the show Pimp My Ride to Janice Joplin singing "Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz".
John Heitmann, a University of Dayton professor and automobile historian, who in his free time likes to polish his 1982 Mercedes SL, said that tariffs will have an existential, as well as an economic, impact.
"New cars are really out of the reach of a good number of Americans to begin with," he told the BBC.
"Consumers will not benefit, prices will go up," particularly amongst more affordable vehicles made in Korea, like Hyundais, he said.
As a vintage-car enthusiast, he said tariffs have added a layer of uncertainty to his hobby.
"About 50 minutes ago, I got an email from a part supplier in the UK saying, 'Don't worry... they're not going to go up, probably'," he said.
"'We haven't seen anything in writing yet.' That's what they said."
Higher-end imported vehicles, such as Audis, BMWs and Mercedes, will increase in price, too, Prof Heitmann said, though many of those who buy from such brands might be able to absorb a heftier price tag.
A 2024 study by the US International Trade Commission predicted that a 25% tariff on imports would reduce imports by almost 75%, while increasing average prices in the US by about 5%.
The US imported about eight million cars last year - accounting for about $240bn (£186bn) in trade and roughly half of overall sales.
Despite efforts from some car makers - including Ford and General Motors - to discourage Trump enacting auto tariffs, the president is forging ahead.
Some car makers are embracing Trump's tariffs, however.
On Tuesday, Hyundai, the South Korean car-marker, announced it would invest $21bn (£16.3bn) in the US by building a new steel plant in Louisiana.
Trump said the move is a "clear demonstration that tariffs very strongly work".
But the tariffs are likely to impact the domestic car industry as well.
US auto manufacturing has been deeply intertwined with industries in Canada and Mexico for decades. Parts criss-cross the borders several times before they are assembled, which means that even a vehicle as iconically American as a Ford pickup truck could see a sticker price increase.
Ultimately, Trump's tariff strategy will thrust the US auto industry into uncharted territory, leaving uncertainty hanging over consumers, dealers and automakers until they go into effect on Wednesday.
"Everything's topsy turvy now, you know, and it's also terribly filled with uncertainty, because no one exactly knows what kind of game is really being played by the Trump administration related to all the bluster of these tariffs," Prof Heitmann said.
Some, like Mya Fountain-Bunch, just want to get through the unease. She took her car into a dealership this week to avoid needing a replacement after the tariffs hit.
"[I'm] making sure that my car is working and hopefully I won't have to buy another car in the next few years, or at least the next four years until this administration is done with."

For the incurable cynics and skeptics who are likely to be dismissive, it bears restating ab initio that this short tribute is not written only for consumption today, but also serves as a testament for generations unborn, especially after the mob mentality that some display today would have given way to some sober reflection.
From an insider perspective, I dare say it will take decades before Nigerians truly and fully understand and appreciate the value President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has brought into our democratic space in all ramifications and the audacity with which he has taken on some of our key systemic challenges as a nation, root and branch.
Doubtless, in post-colonial Nigeria, he has been a master at fostering progressive coalitions for the ultimate advancement of democracy. Firstly, he played a very pivotal role in the formation and sustenance of NADECO to oust the Military and restore democratic governance in Nigeria.
Little wonder that when democracy returned in 1999, there was a broad consensus in the progressive family in Lagos that he was the fit and proper person to be Governor of Lagos State.
As Lagos Governor, he easily became the rallying point for the pursuit and defence of the common purpose against the imperial excesses of the then ruling party. He initiated and spearheaded many legal and political battles against the then Federal Government in a bid to promote democratic ideals.
Secondly, he was at it again in 2015 when he inspired and rallied the biggest coalition of political parties in history to form the APC and oust the overly dominant PDP from power, thus re-balancing our democratic system.
Despite that, he still had to struggle hard to win the Presidential ticket of the same APC in 2022 and battled even harder to win the presidential polls in 2023 before becoming the President of this great country.
In all of these, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has laid a marker for us now and generations to come: do not be a passive participant in a struggle; do not be content with merely helping to remove a prevailing order without a strong commitment to be personally involved in ushering in real change. Otherwise, your struggle would be in vain, lost to the foibles of some charlatans in power.
It can now be seen that he has been motivated over the years by one clear vision: a Nigeria on a genuinely sustainable path of economic growth and development. From the courageous removal of petrol subsidies and the floating of the Naira to other bold reforms the government has embarked upon in different sectors, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has surely taken the bull by the horn. What previous governments shied away from for political expediency has become the defining characteristics of his government.
Now, we are clearly headed in the right direction as a country as developments in different sectors will be rapid in the few years to come because of the rise in our liquidity. Our macro-economic indicators are looking up, and these will eventually impact positively on jobs and ultimately ensure the revival and stability of the middle class.
Lest I get carried away, this is just a birthday tribute. There will be another day or the campaign season for us to answer the hard questions.
But for now, let us pay tribute to this enigmatic and bold reformer as he turns 73; this quintessential democrat; this master of political consensus; this consummate politician; this exemplary President, and this ‘Aare Ona Kankafo’ of all political and democratic struggles.

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Presidential Candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) in the last general elections, has decried the gruesome murder of some Northern Nigerian travelers in Edo State.
The gruesome attack happened in Udune Efandion community in Uromi, Edo State, on March 27, 2025, has sparked outrage.
In a statement published on his personal Facebook page, Kwankwaso described the attack as a “harrowing display of mob injustice and a sad reminder of the barbarity of jungle justice.”
He emphasized that all Nigerians should be able to move around without harassment or intimidation.
“It is general perception that the citizens all over the country must be able to move about without intimidation or harassment,” he said.
Kwankwaso asked the authorities concerned to thoroughly investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“I appeal to the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into this tragic accident and prosecute the offenders,” he said.
The ex-governor also commiserated with the families of the victims, the government of Kano state, and the other states affected by this disaster, praying for those who lost their lives in the tragedy.
Pressure is mounting on the police and security agencies to ensure that justice is done.
