Police Begin Investigation Into Death Of Self-Styled Businessman Ochekwo Wanted In UK, Accused Of Luring Married Woman With N1m

The Nigeria Police Force said it has commenced a thorough investigation into the alleged killing of self-styled British/Nigerian businessman, Andrew Ochekwo accused of luring a married woman and a young girl with N1m, whose whereabouts have been unknown for the past 45 days.
The official reaction from the police on Monday night followed the controversies and varying narratives surrounding the disappearance of the ladies who left their base in Port Harcourt to visit Ochelwo in Aba, Abia State for the weekend on the condition of paying the said sum.
Since April 27, when the duo left for Aba, their whereabouts have been unknown even as the major suspect was allegedly killed while being transferred in the company of police operatives to Abuja.
The police said, “In light of the public interest and the gravity of the allegations, the IGP has deemed it necessary to institute a meticulous investigation into the roles played by the team which carried out the initial investigation in Abia State, and the Force Intelligence Department Intelligence Response Team (IGP-IRT), to unravel the veritable facts of the matter.”
“The Monitoring Unit has been given a two-week timeframe to complete its investigation and present a comprehensive report.”
Despite the call to investigate the death of Ochekwo and the disappearances of the ladies, the suspect was reportedly declared wanted by the United Kingdom government in June 2019 over sexual assault on a woman.
He, however, returned to Nigeria and settled in Aba city where he conveniently flaunted his wealth on social media with claims to run a company that recruits people.
Meanwhile, when the said ladies appeared to have been missing, the case was reported to the police in Aba, where Ochekwe was arrested and detained for the possession of the missing ladies’ belongings.
While in detention, the suspect was said to remain mum on the whereabouts of the ladies but had allegedly functioned freely.
He was then transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit in Aba, then to Umuahia, and then to Abuja following a petition to Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun requesting the suspect’s transfer to Abuja.
Sadly, Ochekwo was allegedly gunned down for attempting to escape while en route to Abuja in the company of police officers. Those who allegedly killed him are said to be in police custody.
While many Nigerians have called for a thorough investigation of all parties including the police in Abia State on the matter, his death has also raised eyebrows on the possibility of a syndicate who may have wanted him dead.
Reports revealed that he attempted to escape in Benue State where he was killed, and his body was later deposited in a mortuary.
Residents in the suspect’s vicinity told security operatives during a search operation that a dismembered human was disposed of in a deserted area and covered with a curtain which was later discovered to match the design of curtains at Ochekwo’s apartment.
However, the Nigeria Police has assured that the case will be handled with the utmost professionalism and integrity, urging Nigerians to remain calm and allow the investigation process to proceed without interference.

Canadian singer, Celine Dion, has disclosed that she has been battling with Stiff Person Syndrome for 17 years before revealing it to the public.
Naija News reports that the ‘Think Twice’ crooner made the revelation in an interview with Hoda Kotb on the Today Show this week.
The singer revealed that she was secretly battling the illness while managing her late husband, Rene Angelil’s cancer battle and raising their children.
According to the 56-year-old singer, who first opened up about her ailment in 2022, she had been experiencing symptoms way back in 2008 but was holding on to her dreams.
Celine Dion explained that she eventually spoke about her illness because keeping it from “the people who got her to where she was” was a huge “burden”.
She said, “We did not know what was going on [with me]. I did not take the time… I should have stopped, took the time to figure it out.
“And like it wasn’t enough, my husband as well is fighting for his own life.
“I had to raise my kids, I had to hide, I had to try to be a hero – while feeling my body leaving me, ‘[I was] holding on to my own dreams.”

The Nigerian Customs Service, Sokoto/Zamfara Command has intercepted vandalised train tracks in kajiji along kebbi road.

While addressing newsmen over the interception, Comptroller of Customs, Sokoto/Zamfara Command, Kamal Muhammed, said three suspects were arrested by the command’s monitoring team at Kajiji along Kebbi Road.
He said the suspects could not tender evidence of allocation from the Federal Ministry of Transport, instead made an overture to bribe the officers with N1.5m while making an advance cash offer of N300, 000.
He said the officers rejected the brive “out of patriotism and integrity.”
He stated that the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence is the agency mandated to secure critical national assets, conforming with the collaboration policy thrust of the CGC, the Area Command will hand over the suspects, the truck, and its content and the N300,000cash to the Commander of NSCDC Sokoto Command for further investigation and prosecutions.

Nigerian Customs Service, Sokoto/Zamfara Area Command said, its officers of the whirlwind tactical team intercepted 11,270 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol).
According to the Controller Kamal Muhammad, the gesture is in compliance with the orders of the Comptroller General of Customs to seal up routes used by smugglers to smuggle contraband,
“The maritime and cross border smuggling of PMS has a negative impact on the overall supply chain of the product in addition to the possibility of funding of criminal activities with the proceeds”.
The seized PMS has been auctioned to residents of Sokoto at a paltry price of N180 per litre.

Popular social media influencer Saida Boj has taken to social media to lambast a Ghanaian prophet who forecasted a dark future for her.
Saida Boj, known for her bold and controversial persona, wasted no time in denouncing the prophet’s warnings, dismissing him as a fraud and accusing him of ulterior motives.
The saga began when the Ghanaian prophet took to the airwaves during a radio interview to share his foreboding insights about Saida Boj’s fate.
Claiming to have insider knowledge, he alleged that dark forces from her paternal lineage were plotting against her, advising her to remain vigilant to avoid falling victim to their schemes.
However, Boj swiftly hit back at the prophet’s claims, branding him a “charlatan” and questioning his credibility, particularly in his country Ghana.
She went on to accuse him of seeking to expand his dubious practices into Nigeria, warning him to steer clear of her path.

A female student has reportedly murdered her newly delivered baby in the Federal University Dutse, Jigawa State school hostel.
The student, whose identity remains undisclosed, was said to masterminded the infant’s death after being thrown from the top floor of a three-storey building, according to Leadership Newspaper.
A heart-wrenching scene unfolded as a viral video captured the aftermath, with fellow students grappling with the incomprehensible loss.
Reports suggest she gave birth in the hostel’s bathroom and questions arise concerning her unmarried status and the circumstances surrounding her pregnancy.
The varsity’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Bello, on Monday, confirmed the incident.
Bello assured all that the university promptly notified the authorities.
He clarified that the student’s pregnancy did not occur during her time at the university, highlighting the recent resumption of the academic session.
Immediate medical attention was provided to the student following the incident.
“The university administration is conducting a thorough investigation and taking necessary measures to address the situation,” Bello stated.
An American citizen who wanted to commit suicide on the Third Mainland Bridge has been rescued, the police in Lagos State have disclosed.
According to the police, the American, whose identity has not been divulged, was driven to the bridge by his baby mama at past 1:00 p.m.
The state Police command made the disclosure in a statement shared on X.com on Monday.
The statement revealed that the American, who is in his early 30s, had ordered his baby mama to stop her vehicle while he walked to a spot on the bridge, with the intention to jump into the Lagoon.
A passerby who noticed his suspicious behavior, quickly alerted patrolling Rapid Response Squad operatives, who persuaded him not to jump.
The officers then reunited him with his wife and daughter before taking them to the RRS Headquarters in Alausa.
The statement said, “An American citizen, name withheld was at 1:23 p.m. today restrained from committing suicide on the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos.
“The American, who is in his early 30s was driven to the Third Mainland Bridge by his Baby Mama in company of his daughter. He directed the lady who was unaware of his motive to park somewhere while he walked to a spot for a leap into the Lagoon.
“A passerby who observed his movement quickly alerted patrolling RRS operatives who persuaded him from jumping, re – united him With his wife before taking them to RRS Headquarters in Alausa.
“The Commander, Rapid Response Squad (RRS), after advising the man and his family, directed that the case be transferred to Gender Department, Lagos Police Command for further counselling and necessary actions.”
Ifeanyi Ubah, senator representing Anambra south, has blamed Chukwuma Soludo, the governor of Anambra, over Flavour’s decision to bury his father in Enugu instead of his Anambra hometown.
On Saturday, Flavour held the burial ceremony of Benjamin Onyemaechi Okoli who passed on last month.
The singer was born in Enugu but his family is originally from Umunze in Orumba South LGA, Anambra.
Cubana Chief Priest, the nightlife promoter, who attended the event disclosed that the burial ceremony was supposed to be held in Umunze, Anambra state.
He also claimed Flavour moved ceremony to Enugu due to security concerns in Anambra state.
In a statement through Kamen Ogbonna, his media advisor on Monday, Ubah apologised to Flavour for the “poor security” and apportioned blame on Soludo for “failing to improve the situation in Umunze”.
He also alleged that Soludo’s interference has hindered efforts to address insecurity in the region.

“We used a combination of artificial intelligence, local intelligence, walkie-talkies, and 4G High Definition CCTV security networking systems to achieve this.
“The state government’s actions have left my constituents vulnerable to security threats, particularly in areas currently under siege by non-state actors, which would have been liberated by now. I will continue to advocate for the security and well-being of my people, despite the obstacles.”

In a recent episode of ‘The Honest Bunch‘ podcast, Yvonne Jegede opened up about her desire for a partner who is empathetic and willing to go the extra mile to meet her needs.
Yvonne stated that her perfect match is someone who understands the value of empathy and is willing to show it in tangible ways.
“Person wey get good mind na im I dey find. Because if you get good mind, you get empathy, if I say ‘Baby please, give me N1 million’, you fit give me N20 million,” she said.
Yvonne Jegede emphasized that a partner with empathy wouldn’t question her requests or assume she’s asking for her father’s money. Instead, they would understand her needs and show willingness to support her.
“But if you no get empathy, you go ask me first of all, say, ‘It is your father’s money?’”

Pat Attah, once a luminary in Nollywood, has unveiled the real reasons behind his dramatic departure from the Nigerian film industry and his relocation to Germany.
In a candid conversation with Teju Babyface, Attah revealed that his foray into the entertainment world was driven purely by a deep-seated passion for the arts, rather than a desire for fame.
The 48-year-old actor confessed that as his star rose, he found himself increasingly stifled by the relentless demands and expectations of the public eye.
Attah recounted how the mounting pressure of living up to his celebrity status became overwhelming, ultimately prompting him to make a bold and life-altering decision.
“When I got into the entertainment industry, I was not necessarily doing it for fame, I was doing it for the passion, the passion I have for the arts,” he said
“Fame was not my goal when I got into entertainment, so when it got really too much, I felt like I was not living the normal life I would like to live. I was basically living my life for people. Because when you are famous, you automatically become a role model to a lot of people, there are certain things you want to do freely that you are restricted from doing to a large extent.
“You do not want people to think, ‘Why would Pat Attah get into a taxi? Why would he get on a bus? Why would he be riding a bicycle on the street?’ I was not living as freely as I would love to be. That is why I decided to take a break and go to a place where I know people also know me, but not as much as back home.”
Attah was popular in Nollywood in the late 90s and early 2000s. He featured in films like ‘Spirit of Love’, ‘Extreme Measures’, ‘Colour of Money’, and ‘Never Believe Me’.
He, however, stopped acting and relocated to Germany in 2005.

Reduce Electricity Consumption, Unilorin VC Appeals To Staff, Students Over N230m Monthly Bill

The Vice-Chancellor of University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, has appealed to both staff members and students to adopt more responsible electricity consumption habits.
This, the VC stated, became imperative following the increase of the institution’s monthly electricity bill from N70m to N230m.
Egbewole urged the staff and students to support the administration’s efforts to implement cost-saving measures.
This was contained in an e-mail message sent to staff members and students of the university.
He said that the recent hike in electricity tariffs by Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) had seriously affected the institution’s budget, adding that the new monthly electricity bill was not sustainable.
The VC, however, stated that the management has intensified efforts in negotiations for alternative power supply to the university.
He explained that all the buildings under construction in the Faculties of Agriculture, Arts, Environmental Science, Law and Social Sciences would include provisions for alternative power sources as part of their designs.
Egbewole stated that the institution is working to ensure that all faculties and units were equipped with reliable alternative power options.
As the countdown to the Sallah (Ileya) festivities begin, ram sellers in various parts of Kwara State such as Offa, Ajase Ipo, and Ilorin among others have attributed the current high costs of rams to the increased prices of petrol and diesel following subsidy removal.
The significant price hike has therefore sparked discussions about the impact of fuel subsidy removal on transportation costs and, consequently, on the prices of goods, including livestock.
The ram sellers confirmed this development in separate interviews with Vanguard correspondent.
Hassan Ojuolape, who sells Rams of different sizes at Kara market in Ajase Ipo, told Vanguard correspondent that the hike in the price of rams compare to that of last year is as a result of removal of fuel subsidy by the federal government.
“Last year prices were expensive as far as we are concerned, but that of this year is just too much and we know the prices wouldn’t have been this high if not for the removal of fuel subsidy.
“Transportation costs of the rams from fat North have seriously added to the increase in prices of the rams this time around and this is where the federal government comes in. Rams that we sold at 70,000,80,000 last year are now being sold at 150,000.upward.”
Similarly, Usman Adio who sells rams at central market in Offa told Vanguard correspondent that sales this year have been poor and attributed it to hike in prices and transportation costs from far north to Offa.
“Returning the unsold rams would be a bigger loss, that’s why we are urging federal government to look into our transportation system and make it easier for the masses,” Adio said.
But speaking in an interview with Vanguard correspondent Musa Kennike, who is the Vice Chairman of the Kwara State Association of Ram, Goat, and Sheep Sellers at Mandate Market, Ilorin also explained that the importation of rams into the North from other countries is limited due to numerous challenges.
He explained that despite the high costs, ram sellers at the Mandate Market have tried to lower prices to encourage customers.
“We have brought down the prices as low as fifty, sixty, and seventy thousand naira, with some rams even going for a hundred, two hundred, and up to four hundred thousand naira to make them more affordable for our customers,” said Kennike.
However, buyers are feeling the pinch. as Mr. Ismail Saka, a customer at the market, expressed his concerns about the increased costs.
“A medium-size ram that was sold for about seventy thousand naira last year is now between N110,000 and N120,000,” he lamented.
Controversial catholic priest, Father Ejike Mbaka, has called on the government to create mass employment through entrepreneurship.
Mbaka said creating a platform for entrepreneurship will help take millions of youths, women and families out of poverty, hunger and economic hardship in Nigeria.
He made the call in Enugu while expressing concern over the prevailing economic situation in Nigeria.
The fiery preacher decried the high rate of unemployment among youths, stressing the need for an urgent measure to tackle the menace.
The Catholic priest stated that insecurity would fester if key social problems in the country were not addressed, adding that the current situation has made it important to encourage and support women to embrace entrepreneurship.
According to Mbaka: “This is the time to create mass employment through entrepreneurship and take millions of youths, women and families out of poverty, hunger and economic hardship.
“FeeFund is coming at a time Nigerians need it the most. It is important to address the country’s ongoing problem of economic hardship. This is why I have endorsed FeeFund. This is the way to go if we must create jobs for our youths and women.”
