The former Senator Representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Senator Shehu Sani has lampooned former Kaduna Governor, Nasir Elrufai for accusing Governor Uba Sani of collecting “N150 billion” from Tinubu and refusing to disclose it to the people of the state.

Writing on Facebook, Shehu Sani wrote on Wednesday alleged that nobody in Kaduna State can confidently claim they know the $350 million World Bank loans given to the state was spent.

He wrote, “The Ex-Governor of Kaduna State accused the Present Governor of Collecting “N150 Billion” from Tinubu and refusing to disclose it to the people of the state. Lets recall history and find the answers.

“The Ex-Governor collected millions of Dollars in Paris Refund from BUHARI and never disclosed it to the people of the state.

“He collected Billions of Excess Crude funds from BUHARI and never disclosed it to the Kaduna public.

“He collected Billions in Ecological funds from BUHARI and never disclosed it to the Kaduna People.

“He collected Billions of special grants from BUHARI through the CBN and never disclosed it to the Kaduna public.

“He collected stamp duties in Billions from BUHARI and never disclosed it to the people of the state.

“He collected Billions from a commercial Bank and mortgaged the state IGR and never disclosed it to the Kaduna people.

“There is nobody in Kaduna state who can confidently hold his Holy Book and swear that he or she knows how every kobo of the Kaduna’s $350 million World Bank loans was spent, Until the Kaduna Assembly probe.

“If the present Governor actually refused to disclose the mythical “150 billion”, he must have learned it from the Ex Governor. The ex Governor is coming to equity with dirty hands.

“If the Present Governor is supporting Tinubu because of money, can we say that the former one was supporting and kneeling down for Buhari for the same reason?

“The man with a body odour is accusing another of having a mouth odour.

“The ex-Governor also accused the present Governor of betrayal. Its simply a case of the Legend of betrayal being outsmarted by the grand guru.”

Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has described the former governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, as a drowning man who is trying to drag Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser, NSA, down with him.

Omokri made this assertion on his verified Facebook page, stating that el-Rufai found himself increasingly sidelined in both state and national politics.

He stated that El-Rufai lost out in Kaduna, where the governor has wisely refused to be his Man Friday, and he lost out on becoming a minister after Kaduna residents raised several petitions against him for allegedly paying killer herdsmen, who perpetrated the Southern Kaduna genocide, claiming that the killings unsurprisingly stopped as soon as Nasir left office.

Omokri added that El-Rufai is now turning his attention to Malam Nuhu Ribadu, a man widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most principled public servants.

El-Rufai recently resurfaced with claims allegedly implicating Ribadu, the former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in past corruption-related remarks against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

However, Omokri insisted that a closer look at the evidence provided by El-Rufai suggests that his assertions lack substance.

“In a 2006 statement, Ribadu made a general remark about all serving governors at the time, stating that they were fortunate not to have faced the same fate as convicted former Governors Joshua Dariye and Diepreye Alamieyeseigha.

“Contrary to el-Rufai’s claims, Ribadu did not single out or accuse then-Governor Tinubu of corruption, nor did he confirm that an EFCC investigation had found him guilty of any wrongdoing,” the statement read.

Omokri argued that Ribadu’s statement was part of a broader law enforcement strategy aimed at deterring corruption among political officeholders, similar to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s “show of force” tactics.

“The EFCC, at the time still in its infancy, sought to establish its authority and reinforce the perception that all public officials were under scrutiny,” Omokri added.

El-Rufai has further cited transcripts from Federal Executive Council meetings to support his claims. However, Omokri challenged him to produce these documents, arguing that their existence is questionable.

He noted that Ribadu’s later relationship with Tinubu, including the former EFCC chairman’s emergence as the Action Congress of Nigeria’s presidential candidate in 2011—a move reportedly facilitated by Tinubu—contradicts el-Rufai’s allegations.

Omokri stated that El-Rufai’s latest manoeuvre comes as no surprise, given his history of shifting loyalties.

“In 2010, he was a vocal critic of then-General Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as ‘perpetually unelectable’ due to his authoritarian past. Just months later, el-Rufai aligned himself with Buhari, becoming one of his most ardent supporters,” he said 

Operatives of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, have arrested two suspects for allegedly trafficking a 16-year-old girl to Burkina Faso for prostitution.

The commandant of the NSCDC in Edo State, Gbegan Agu, who paraded the suspects, named them Favour Idemudia, 16, and Precious Akpasuvbe, 25.

According to him, on 29 January 2025, Hope Friday reported her 16-year-old sister missing and suspected Akpasuvbe of being involved in her disappearance.

“Immediately, a combined team of NSCDC intelligence and counter-terrorism units swung into action and arrested the principal suspect, identified as Alex Omoseve, 47, boyfriend of Precious Akpasuvbe, at the Agbor Park area of Benin City.

“During the investigation, the Corps discovered that the missing girl was trafficked to Burkina Faso for prostitution without her parents’ consent.

“The suspects confessed to the crime, and the victim has been brought back from Burkina Faso and reunited with her family,” he said.

Agu said the suspects would be charged in court upon completion of the investigation.

In an interview with reporters, the victim said the suspect, who often came to play Bet9ja in her sister’s shop, promised to take her overseas to work as a housemaid.

“But on reaching Burkina Faso, they told me my job was to sleep with men, and I started crying. I later begged someone who gave me a phone to inform my sister, who wasn’t aware of my journey. That was how I returned to Nigeria,” she stated.

The principal suspect, Alex Omoseve, said he knew the victim at her sister’s shop where he used to play Bet9ja. He alleged that the victim told him she wanted to travel, and he introduced her to his girlfriend, who knew people in Burkina Faso, to help her.

He said he introduced the victim to his girlfriend because he didn’t know anyone there, and that his girlfriend, who was in Burkina Faso before, decided to assist her.

For her part, Precious Akpasuvbe told reporters that they took the victim to Burkina Faso for prostitution. She also confessed they were paid N200,000 by her partner in Burkina Faso.

Popular comedian Bovi has revealed that he has relocated his family abroad.

Featuring in a recent episode of the ‘Uncolored’ podcast, the comic star explained that he relocated his kids abroad because the Nigerian educational system has accepted bullying.

“My kids don’t live in the country [Nigeria] anymore. They have been in the UK for two years now. It started by accident, my first son has been there since 2021 in boarding house.

“I went to boarding school in Nigeria and it made me street-smart. So I decided that my kid needs to go to boarding but not in Nigeria because the educational system has accepted bullying by empowering students to bully their fellows students in the name of senior students disciplining their juniors,” he said.

On what is fuelling the mass migration of Nigerians abroad, Bovi said, “The saving grace of the country is that we’ve not gone into war or food shortage. We’ve also not had natural disasters.

“So we can lose 500 doctors in one year but there are about 200 new doctors coming on board. It’s like using balm aid on a big wound. That’s why it has not blown up in our faces.

“If the government wants to stem the tide, they check what the West is doing. Why are doctors comfortable going to work in other countries? It’s not just the money. If you are passionate about something but when you get to work there’s light and an enabling encouragement, you don’t get to fight to go to work or go back home.

“It may not be perfect but at least that decency is not lost. Patients have died in Nigeria because of lack of blood or power failure during operation. If you are a medical doctor, would you like to work under that kind of condition? The answer is no.”

A federal judge on Wednesday blocked Donald Trump’s attempt to restrict birthright citizenship in the United States, US in a blow to the president’s bid to end a right enshrined in the Constitution for more than a century.

The ruling indefinitely bans enforcement of one of Trump’s most controversial executive orders, which was due to come into effect nationwide on February 19.

“The denial of the precious right to citizenship will cause irreparable harm,” District Judge Deborah Boardman was reported as saying during the hearing at a Maryland court. 

She noted that Supreme Court precedent protects birthright citizenship, adding that Trump’s order “conflicts with the plain language of the 14th Amendment,” the Washington Post reported.

“No court in the country has ever endorsed the president’s interpretation,” she said. “This court will not be the first.”

The injunction adds to a 14-day stay on enforcement of Trump’s executive order issued in January by a federal judge in Washington state.

There, US District Judge John Coughenour condemned the order as “blatantly unconstitutional,” though Trump quickly told reporters he planned to appeal the ruling.

Birthright citizenship is enshrined in the US Constitution under the 14th Amendment which decrees that anyone born on US soil is a citizen.

Trump’s order was premised on the idea that anyone in the United States illegally, or on a visa, was not “subject to the jurisdiction” of the country, and therefore excluded from this category.

His opponents have argued that the 14th Amendment, which was ratified in 1868 as the United States sought to recover from the Civil War, has been settled law for over a century.

They have cited an 1898 US Supreme Court ruling in the case of a Chinese-American man named Wong Kim Ark, who was denied reentry to the United States on the grounds that he was not a citizen.

The court affirmed that children born in the United States, including those born to immigrants, could not be denied citizenship

Argentina said Wednesday it will quit the World Health Organization, following in the footsteps of Donald Trump’s United States and citing similar complaints over the UN body’s management of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Railing against the economic fallout of Covid-19 lockdowns, President Javier Milei lamented “one of the most bizarre crimes against humanity” as he explained the reasons for the move.

Argentina’s self-declared “anarcho-capitalist” leader said the WHO had been “the executing arm of what was the greatest experiment in social control in history.”

The South American country announced its withdrawal from the UN health agency two weeks after Trump, an ideological ally and hero of Milei, signaled Washington’s planned exit.

Milei’s decision was based on “deep differences regarding health management especially during the pandemic,” spokesman Manuel Adorni told reporters earlier, adding Argentina would not “allow an international body to interfere in our sovereignty.”

Argentina had been hard hit by the pandemic, with about 130,000 deaths, and Milei’s predecessor Alberto Fernandez imposed a five-month lockdown in 2020 widely perceived as crippling for a struggling economy.

Adorni insisted withdrawing from the WHO gave Argentina “greater flexibility to implement policies adapted to the context” locally, while ensuring “greater availability of resources.”

The WHO did not immediately comment on Argentina’s departure.

WHO data shows Argentina contributed about $8.75 million in membership fees to the organization across 2022 and 2023 — 0.11 percent of the total budget.

It was slated to contribute $8.25 million for 2024-2025.

The vast majority of the UN agency’s budget comes from voluntary contributions, however, and Argentina has made none in recent years.

Adorni said Argentina “does not receive funding from the WHO, so this measure does not represent a loss of funds for the country.”

He also accused the body of “a lack of independence.”

– ‘Endless quarantines’ –

Last year, Argentina refused to join a new pandemic protocol drawn up by the WHO and gave notice of its intention to withdraw from the agency altogether.

International relations expert Federico Merke, of the University of San Andres in Buenos Aires, said the move would leave Argentina isolated when it comes to information-sharing and cooperation in the case of a new pandemic or other health threat.

Milei is an avowed fan of Trump, who signed an order within hours of his January 20 inauguration for the United States to withdraw from the WHO, which he has also criticized for its pandemic handling.

Washington was the biggest contributor to the Geneva-based organization, which Trump claimed had “ripped us off,” and the US withdrawal leaves global health initiatives short of funding.

Since taking office in December 2023, Milei has gutted public spending, having vowed to maintain a zero budget deficit after years of overspending.

His austerity measures are estimated to have tipped millions more people into poverty, but the country last year recorded its first budget surplus since 2010 while inflation fell by nearly half.

Milei was the first foreign leader to visit Trump at his Mar-a-Lago Florida estate after the Republican’s November US election victory.

His decision also casts new doubt on Argentina’s future adherence to the 2015 Paris climate change agreement, under which countries committed to limiting greenhouse gas emissions to keep global average temperature rise below a critical threshold.

Withdrawing the United States from the Paris pact was another of Trump’s first moves after taking office.

Milei’s Argentina, pushing for a free trade deal with the United States, has previously said it was “reevaluating” its strategy “on all climate change-related issues.”

Police in Akwa Ibom state have arrested 13 year old Samuel Sunday for carrying about his father’s gun, threatening to shooting fellow pupils at the St Paul Primary School, Ikot Ibiok, Eket Local Government Area (LGA).

Commissioner of Police (CP), Akwa Ibom State Police Command, Baba Mohammed Azare, who disclosed this Wednesday in Uyo, said the teenage suspect’s father has also been arrested. 

CP Azare was briefing on his Command’s operations report in last one week which, he said, witnessed arrest of suspected criminals for various offences recoveries, and ongoing investigations.

He said, “On 30/01/2025 at about 0800hrs, the Command’s received information that on 28/01/2025 one Samuel Sunday “m”, 13 year old pupil of St. Paul primary school Ikot Ibiok was going armed (with gun) in the school, threatening to fire at fellow pupils.

“The Command swung into action, arrested the suspect and recovered a locally made pistol. The suspect confessed he has been with the said gun since November 2024, that he got it from a wardrobe in his father’s bedroom. The father was later arrested. Investigation is still ongoing.”

In further recoveries, the Command over last week also “arrested one Abasifreke Udo Thomas ‘m’ Aka Udo Orlando or Olamide of Ikot Ibiom village who shot one lady (name withheld) sometimes in December 2024.

“He was seen in a hotel. Operatives of the Command immediately arrested the suspect and a locally made pistol was recovered from him. Investigation is still ongoing.

“On 30/ 01/2025 at about 1307hrs, our Operatives arrested Uyobong Ekong Edet ‘m’ aged 24yrs, Israel Daniel Bassey ’m’ aged 19yrs, Nsikak Asuquo Okon ‘m’ aged 18yrs for attempted murder, cultism and unlawful possession of firearm.

“Items recovered include one locally made pistol, three live cartridges. 

Fire outbreak at an Islamic school in the Kaura-Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State, claimed the lives of at least 17 Almajiri students.

The fire which started late on Tuesday night and raged for about three hours, also left 16 others injured. 

The fire reportedly started fire started when the children were asleep. 

Abdulrasaq Bello Kaura, a resident of the area who spoke to Channels TV on the incident said the fire was caused by some stored sticks locally called kara.

“It happened at Makaranta Mallam Ghali, inside their study hall. There are about 100 of them in the house, after they evacuated the students, they thought none of them remained inside the house, it was when they returned after the fire, they started seeing their legs, hands, they got burnt beyond recognition,” Kaura said. 

The source added that the 17 students were buried on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.

The suspended traditional ruler of Orile Ifo, in Ogun State, Oba Abdulsemiu Ogunjobi was on Tuesday remanded at the Ilaro Correctional centre, Ogun State after failing to perfect the bail condition granted him by a Magistrate Court, sitting in Ifo.

The spokesman of Correctional Centres in the state, Yinka Odukoya confirmed this to our Correspondent on Tuesday. 

Odukoya said, “he is in our custody and this definitely means that he was unable to perfect the bail conditions as granted by the court yesterday, but as soon as he is able to do that, he will be allowed to go”.

The Ogun State Police Command had on Tuesday arraigned the suspended monarch over a viral video where he was seen assaulting a 73 year old man, Abraham Areola.

The Police Prosecutor, Inspector O. Awoleke in a charge sheet with number MH2b8c/2025 Commissioner of Police vs Abdul-Semiu, said the accused person was arraigned on a three count charge of conspiracy; assault and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.

The charge reads thus, “That Abdul-Semiu ‘m’ and others at large on the 21st of January,2025 at about 1100hrs at Sojuolu Street, Ifo Magisterial District did conspire together to commit misdemeanor to wit: Assault and conduct likely to cause breach of peace and thereby committed and offence contrary to and punishable under Section 517 of the Criminal Code of Laws of Ogun State of Nigeria,2006.

“That you Abdul Semiu ‘m’ and others now at large on the same date ,time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District did unlawfully assault one Areola Abraham by slapped him on his face and ear and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 351 of the Criminal Code Law of Ogun State of Nigeria,2006.

“That you Abdul Semiu ‘m’ and others at large on the same date, time and place in tbe aforementioned Magisterial District did conduct yourselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by forcing one Areola Abraham ‘m’ to kneel down and assaulted him in the public and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 249 (d) of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State of Nigeria,2006.”

The accused person who appeared before Magistrate F.A Iroko, pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.

The Magistrate granted the accused person a bail of N5m, with two sureties in like sum, who must be residents within the court jurisdiction.

Meanwhile, the Coalition of the Civil Society Organization’s (CSOs) in the State, commended the Prince Dapo Abiodun led administration swift action of suspending Ogunjobi for a period of six months.

The CSOs in a statement issued in Abeokuta,and signed by its Chairman, Comrade Solomon Bankole, urged that the matter should not be allowed to die at the preliminary stage in the interest of the life of the victim.

Bankole in the statement expressed disgust with the role played by Oba Ogunjobi wherein the monarch superintended over the public humiliation meted out on the fragile-looking elderly man, whom he forced to prostrate for him on the highway, in addition to several physical assault he received in the hands of the palace aides.

“It beats our imagination to behold the disturbing video of the humiliation carried out on the personality of that 74-years old Chief Areola, by a supposed custodian of the Yoruba cultural beliefs and norms”.

“As a Yoruba man to start with, it is not in our culture; it is against our tradition and values to have children physically assaulting the elders, talk less of having a traditional ruler supervising such public humiliation of someone old enough to be his father.

“I have watched and listened to that video which has now gone viral and I must say that it was too horrible and unacceptable in our society.

“Watching that 73-year-old man helplessly on his kneels, facing a downpour of curses and absorbing a hot slap by a palace slave was a gory sight and a nightmare.

“Chief Areola was indeed, caught at the wrong side of the monarch’s law and so, he was dragged to the floor and dehumanised before the world.

“Ogun CSOs are seriously in support of the steps so far taken by the state government by suspending the power-drunk monarch, the Olorile of Orile Ifo, Oba Abdul-Semiu Ogunjobi who publicly humiliated the septuagenarian, Chief Areola”.

Similarly, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in the State, has also commended the State government and the State Police Command on the steps taken so far to ensure justice for the victim of Orile Ifo assault.

The PCRC called on the Police to arrest the person that slapped the victim as well.

The State PCRC chairman, Ven (Dr) Samson Kunle Popoola, assured the public of its unbiased stance on issues that affect the fundamental human rights of the people of the State
