As newly crowned national champions, Remo Stars will represent Nigeria in the CAF Champions League.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered a surprise three-day ceasefire from May 8-10, coinciding with Moscow’s World War II Victory Day commemorations, the Kremlin said Monday.
Moscow said it expected Kyiv to issue a similar order, and that it stood ready to respond to any violations of the possible halt in fighting.
Putin made a similar order to stop combat over Easter — a truce that both sides accused the other of violating hundreds of times but did lead to a temporary reduction in fighting.
“The Russian side is declaring a ceasefire during the 80th anniversary of Victory Day, from midnight on May 7-8 to midnight on May 10-11. All combat operations will be suspended during this period,” the Kremlin said in a statement.
“Russia believes that the Ukrainian side should follow this example. In the event of violations of the truce by the Ukrainian side, the Russian armed forces will give an adequate and effective response,” it added.
Putin last month rejected a US proposal for a full and unconditional 30-day ceasefire that had been accepted by Ukraine.
Kyiv and its European backers accused Putin of announcing the 30-hour Easter truce as a PR exercise and said he had little desire for peace.
Since launching its Ukraine offensive in February 2022, Russia has seized large parts of four Ukrainian regions and claimed them as its own, in addition to Crimea, which it annexed in 2014.

Putin’s order of a ceasefire comes at the beginning of what the United States indicated would be a crucial week for the chances of a ceasefire that could determine how long Washington keeps trying to broker a deal.
After a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at Pope Francis’s funeral on Saturday, Donald Trump questioned whether the Russian leader was serious about peace.
“There was no reason for Putin to be shooting missiles into civilian areas, cities and towns, over the last few days. It makes me think that maybe he doesn’t want to stop the war, he’s just tapping me along,” Trump had said on Truth Social.
Russian missiles have killed dozens of civilians over the last month in large-scale strikes on Zelensky’s home city of Kryvyi Rig, the northeastern city of Sumy, and the capital Kyiv.
Russia had earlier on Monday said it was ready to negotiate directly with Ukraine, but that recognition of its claims over five Ukrainian regions including Crimea were “imperative” to resolving the conflict.
Ukraine has denounced the annexations as an illegal land grab and says it will never recognise them, while European officials have warned that accepting Moscow’s demands set a dangerous precedent that could lead to future Russian aggression.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with Brazilian newspaper O Globo published Monday that “we remain open to negotiations.”
“But the ball is not in our court. So far, Kyiv has not demonstrated its ability to negotiate,” he said, adding Moscow’s position on the conflict was “well-known”.
“International recognition of Russia’s ownership of Crimea, Sevastopol, the Donetsk People’s Republic, the Lugansk People’s Republic, the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions is imperative,” he said, using the Kremlin’s names for the Ukrainian regions.
Zelensky said last Friday that Ukraine would “not legally recognise any temporarily occupied territories”, and has previously called the demilitarisation demand “incomprehensible”.

Trump, who boasted before his inauguration he could halt Russia’s assault on Ukraine within “24 hours”, launched a diplomatic offensive to stop the fighting after taking office in January.
But the White House has voiced frustration with both sides, as the conflict that has devastated swathes of eastern Ukraine and killed tens of thousands of people drags on.
Russia and Ukraine have not held direct talks on the fighting since the start of Moscow’s offensive in 2022.
Early Monday, a Russian attack on a Ukrainian village near the frontline city of Pokrovsk killed a married couple and another local resident, regional prosecutors said.
Meanwhile, Russia over the weekend announced it had taken full control of its Kursk region with the help of North Korean troops, more than eight months after Kyiv launched a cross-border ground assault.

The Federal Government has directed the West African Examinations Council and the National Examinations Council to adopt full Computer-Based Testing for all their examinations by 2026.
The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, disclosed this during the monitoring of the ongoing exams alongside JAMB officials, in Bwari on Monday.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that more than 2 million candidates registered for the ongoing examination in more than 800 centres across the country.
Alausa revealed that both the WAEC and NECO would start administering their objective papers via CBT, effective this November.
According to him, the full adoption of CBT for the essay and objective components would commence by May or June 2026.
”If JAMB can successfully conduct CBT exams for more than 2.2 million candidates, WAEC and NECO can do the same.
“We are going to get WAEC and NECO to also start their objective exam on CBT.
“By 2026 exams which will come up in May/June, both the objectives and the essay will be fully on CBT. That is how we can eliminate exam malpractices.”
Alausa also disclosed that a committee is currently reviewing examination standards nationwide, with recommendations expected next month.
Earlier, the JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, while speaking on the early schedule of the exams, clarified that the board’s UTME exams had always begun at 8:00 a.m.
Oloyede said that candidates were only expected to be on the ground by 6:30 a.m., to enable them to get accredited before the exams.
He dismissed complaints about early arrival times, noting that it was necessary to screen candidates before exams began.
“We have always started our exams at 8 o’clock. The first session is 8 o’clock, the second session is 10:30, the third session is 1 p.m., and the fourth session is 3:30 p.m.
Oloyede also debunked claims of candidates being posted to centres they did not choose, stating that investigations showed no such cases had happened.
He confirmed that more than 1.6 million out of 2.03 million registered candidates had completed their exams, with about 50,000 remaining.
The registrar further revealed that more than 40 candidates had been arrested for malpractice, including impersonation and attempting to smuggle out exam questions with hidden cameras.
He added that of the registered candidates, more than 41,000 were underage.

Justice Nwosu-Iheme of a FCT High Court Wuse Zone 2 in Abuja on Monday sentenced the husband of late gospel singer, Osinachi, Peter Nwachukwu, to death by hanging.
Nwachukwu was found guilty of culpable homicide resulting in the death of the deceased ( his wife) on April 8, 2022.
The judge held that the prosecution had proven the burden of proof placed on it by the law and subsequently found the defendant guilty.
Nwachukwu was arraigned on June 3, 2022 by the Office of Attorney-General of the Federation (OAGF), on behalf of the Federal Government, on a 23-count charge .
The charge was on culpable homicide punishable with death, criminal intimidation, cruelty to children, criminal intimidation of children, spousal battery, among others.
In the course of trial, the prosecution called 17 witnesses, including two children of the late Osinachi, who testified as fourth prosecution and fifth prosecution witnesses, PW4 and PW5 respectively.
The prosecution also tendered 25 documents as exhibits before the court.
The defendant testified for the defence and further called four other witnesses and tendered four exhibits in his defence.
Shortly before sentencing, the defendant, counsel , Reginald Nwali, in his allocutus pleaded with the court to be lenient in its judgment.
Similarly, the prosecution counsel, Mrs Aderonke Imala, urged the court to give force to the law as stipulated.
Justice Nwosu-Iheme subsequently sentenced Nwachukwu to death by hanging on Count 1, while he was sentenced to two years imprisonment each on Counts 2, 3, 8,9, 12, 13, and 18.
The court sentenced the defendant to six months imprisonment on Count 10, three years imrisonment in Count 11, while he was fined the sum of N500,000 and N200,000 respectively on Counts 6 and 7 respectively.

Nasir Idris, governor of Kebbi, says he remains committed to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and has no plans to defect.
A viral message had claimed that Idris and four other APC governors were finalising plans to defect to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before the 2027 elections.
This follows growing coalition talks among opposition politicians seeking to wrest power from the ruling APC.
Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has been at the forefront of “strategic meetings” around the proposed coalition.
In a statement on Sunday, Ahmed Idris, the governor’s spokesperson, described the report linking his principal and four other governors to a new political alliance as “ridiculously malicious”.
The spokesperson dismissed the claim as “a huge joke” crafted by “the most uninteresting political comedians”.
“His Excellency would have chosen to ignore the report as a dance of mad fellows dancing naked in the marketplace, but for the avoidance of doubt, Governor Idris wishes to state categorically that he is not a political prostitute,” the statement reads.
“This report is not only false, but it is a huge joke cracked by the most uninteresting political comedians.
“He is made in APC by APC and for APC. He will be the last person to leave his reliable and formidable party for any coalition, no matter who the architects and builders are.
“Comrade Nasir Idris is a leader who loves his people. The people of Kebbi State love him with a passion and beyond comment.
“The people of Kebbi state are completely in APC, and he can therefore not afford to abandon his people and embrace strangers.
“According to the KAURAN GWANDU, “I’m completely focused on making Kebbi State better and consolidating the gains and successes of our party and our leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

A fresh legal controversy is brewing in Nigeria’s democratic and judicial circles following a damning legal critique by constitutional lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Prof. Mike Ozekhome.
The senior jurist has raised critical concerns over the legality of key regulatory frameworks guiding the recall of lawmakers and the discipline of judicial officers—casting doubts on the ongoing attempt to recall Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and the legality of the NJC’s disciplinary procedures.
In a detailed legal opinion titled “Natasha’s Recall, NJC’s Code of Conduct/Judicial Discipline Regulations – Matters Arising,” Prof. Ozekhome described the 2024 INEC Guidelines on Recall as “structurally defective”, arguing they were invalidly signed by only the Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, without proper delegation or co-signature from other commissioners, as required by law.
He cited Section 27(2) of the Interpretation Act and Paragraph 14 of the 1999 Constitution’s Third Schedule, noting that such actions must be executed by at least two authorized members of the electoral body.
“This alone,” he stated, “ought to have entirely nullified the recall process against Senator Natasha.”
In a parallel critique, Ozekhome took aim at the NJC’s 2017 Judicial Discipline Regulations, arguing they suffer from an even graver defect—a complete lack of execution by any NJC official, including the Chief Justice of Nigeria.
He emphasized that without evidence of proper endorsement, such documents are susceptible to being struck down as ultra vires (beyond legal powers).
Perhaps more controversially, he questioned the constitutionality of Regulation 21(3) of the NJC guidelines, which excludes the application of the Evidence Act during investigative hearings of judicial officers.
He warned that this overreach may violate Nigeria’s exclusive legislative powers vested in the National Assembly on matters of evidence, as outlined in the 1999 Constitution and Evidence Act, 2011.
On a related note, he spotlighted ethical concerns surrounding judicial officers engaging in social clubs, referencing the President of the Court of Appeal’s role as chairman of the IBB Golf Club’s Board of Trustees.
While the Code of Conduct for Judicial Officers permits such affiliations, he urged caution, stating: “Perception is invariably reality.”
In conclusion, Prof. Ozekhome called for urgent legal reform, warning that the continued reliance on these unendorsed and potentially unconstitutional regulations leaves public institutions vulnerable to legal challenge.

The suspended lawmaker representing Kogi Central, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Udaughan, on Sunday, tendered an unreserved apology to Senate President Godswill Akpabio over the controversial sexual harassment allegation she levelled against him.
However, her perceived apology was veiled in a satirical letter she wrote to the former Akwa Ibom governor, who is currently in Rome for the late Pope Francis’ funeral and made available to newsmen in Abuja.
PUNCH Online reported that Natasha was suspended on March 6 following a heated disagreement with the Senate leadership over a new seating arrangement, which she alleged was designed to undermine her.
Tensions rose further when Akpoti-Uduaghan accused Akpabio on national television of punishing her for rejecting his purported sexual advances.
During the Women in Parliament session at the Inter-Parliamentary Union meeting at the United Nations in New York, Akpoti-Uduaghan called for international intervention to hold the Nigerian Senate accountable.
She also criticised the severe measures imposed on her, including the withdrawal of security, salary cuts, and a six-month suspension from the National Assembly.
Following a series of legal fireworks between both parties, the court barred the duo from talking to the press and commenting on the issue until the legal outcome of the case.
However, on Sunday, two days after Akpabio led a Federal Government delegation to the Vatican, the Kogi Central senator wrote a derisive ‘Apology Letter’ directed at the Senate President.
It read, “Dear Distinguished Senate President Godswill Akpabio, It is with the deepest sarcasm and utmost theatrical regret that I tender this apology for the grievous crime of possessing dignity and self-respect in your most exalted presence.
“I have reflected extensively on my unforgivable failure to recognise that legislative success in certain quarters is apparently not earned through merit, but through the ancient art of compliance — of the very personal kind.
“How remiss of me not to understand that my refusal to indulge your… “requests” was not merely a personal choice, but a constitutional violation of the unwritten laws of certain men’s entitlement. Truly, I must apologize for prioritizing competence over capitulation, vision over vanity, and the people’s mandate over private dinners behind closed doors.
“I now realize the catastrophic consequences of my actions: legislation delayed, tempers flared, and the tragic bruising of egos so large they require their own postcodes. For this disruption to the natural order of “quid pro quo,” I bow my head in fictional shame.
“Please find it in your magnanimous heart — somewhere buried deep beneath layers of entitlement — to forgive this stubborn woman who mistakenly believed that her seat in the Senate was earned through elections, not erections. The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso, has described inflation as the most significant threat to the economic welfare of Nigerians, pledging the CBN’s commitment to reducing inflation to single digits over the medium term.

Naija News reports that the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maitama Tuggar, said most young Nigerians were lured out of the country under the promise of lucrative jobs, particularly in crypto-related operations..
In a statement on Sunday by the Ministry’s spokesman, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Tuggar noted that victims of the fake job promoters online are being subjected to inhumane conditions and slavery.
He assured that the government was working with international partners to arrest the culprits.
Tuggar advised Nigerians to verify all employment offers through official channels and report suspicious cases to relevant authorities for necessary investigation and action to curtail the activities of the perpetrators.
It read: “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs notes with grave concern the alarming rise of cyber slavery across parts of West Africa, targeting Nigerian citizens, particularly vulnerable youths. Many young Nigerians, including underage teenagers, are lured out of the country under the false promise of lucrative employment opportunities abroad, particularly in crypto-related operations.
“In reality, these individuals are trafficked into sophisticated scam operations and enslaved to work in criminal ‘call centres’ — often referred to as ‘419 cyber-scam factories’. There, they are forced under coercive and inhumane conditions to send thousands of fraudulent emails, text messages, and calls aimed at defrauding victims worldwide.
“The Ministry notes with dismay a recent incident where the Economic and Organised Crimes Office (EOCO) in Accra, Ghana rescued and detained a group of Nigerians forced to engage in cybercrime activities under inhumane conditions. This incident highlights the severe exploitation and abuse associated with cybercrime operations. It also underscores the need for enhanced efforts to combat such multibillion-dollar criminal networks and mitigate the susceptibility of victims.
“The Ministry strongly warns all Nigerians, especially the youths and parents, to exercise the utmost caution when presented with job offers, particularly those promising easy money, overseas travel, or remote work involving cryptocurrencies. Nigerians are therefore advised to verify all employment offers through official channels and report suspicious cases to relevant authorities for necessary investigation and action to curtail the activities of the perpetrators.
“The Ministry wishes to assure the general public that, as a precautionary measure to address this unfortunate situation, the Federal Government is working closely with regional partners, law enforcement agencies, and international organizations to tackle this heinous crime, rescue victims, and bring perpetrators to justice.

Gunmen have abducted Harira Abdullahi, the wife of the District Head of Aboro in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Alhaji Shuaibu Suleiman Galadima, alongside his daughter, Maryam Suleiman Galadima.
It was learnt that the incident occurred around 7:36 pm on Sunday when the attackers stormed the district head’s residence and whisked away the two women.
A resident of the community, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the development to our reporter on Monday morning. According to him, the attack threw the area into confusion as residents mobilised to rescue the abducted victims.
“But as we followed them into the bush to try and rescue the kidnapped persons, the gunmen opened fire on us. Sadly, they shot dead one of our members, Umar Abdullahi, and injured another, Suleiman, who is currently receiving treatment at a hospital,” he said.
He added that the deceased had been buried according to Islamic rites.
The source called on the government and security agencies to intensify efforts to secure the release of the abducted wife and daughter of the traditional ruler, and to ensure the safety of the community.
Efforts to get a reaction from the Kaduna State Police Command were unsuccessful as the spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, did not respond to inquiries by our reporter as of the time of filing this report.

“This is just one of those rumours that tend to surface every election cycle. Governor Idris is too committed to the APC to leave now, especially after the victory in the last election,” he added.
However, not everyone shares Bello’s optimism. A party member from the governor’s ward in Nassarawa II, Brinin Kebbi, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed a more cautious outlook.
“The silence from the government is worrisome. We are deeply concerned. The situation looks increasingly serious on a daily basis, and if the governor defects, it could spell the end of APC dominance in Kebbi State. I fear that the defection might be imminent.”
Another APC stalwart, Ahmed Jibril, who has been involved in local politics for years, added that the APC’s declining fortunes could lead to defections.
“It’s possible that Governor Idris is considering joining forces with Atiku. The APC is fractured in this state and the national level, and some of us are already looking at alternatives. If the governor makes the move, others will follow. It’s all about survival in the political game.”
While some members are concerned about Governor Idris’s alleged defection, there is also growing chatter within the APC about the possibility of Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) Abubakar Malami stepping into the governor’s role in 2027.
Some party members have expressed strong support for Malami, whom the described as a viable alternative and a leader who could unite the party in these uncertain times.
Historically, Kebbi has been a stronghold of the APC, but recent events have exposed the cracks within the party.
Meanwhile, several efforts to reach Kabir Sani-Giant, the Special Adviser to Governor Nasiru Idris on Power and Politics, were unsuccessful.
Sani-Giant has remained unreachable following his recent suspension from the APC.
