One of the children of the couple who killed each other on Tuesday at the Ita Eku area of Igirigiri, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, has recounted how his parents engaged in a deadly machete fight that led to their deaths.

The couple’s lifeless bodies were discovered in a pool of blood on Tuesday at their residence where they lived with their four children.

According to reports, the deceased wife usually accused her husband, identified as Caleb, who was said to be a policeman, of infidelity.

Sources said the couple killed each other during a fight as deep machete wounds were visible on their bodies. 

However, in a viral video shared on Instagram by Daodu Sammy Gbenga on Thursday, a boy said to be one of the couple’s children, revealed that there was no noticeable dispute between his parents on the night of the tragic incident.

Aged about 13 years, the boy, seen in the video wearing white underwear and blue jeans, recalled that his father had promised to share his struggles with him but was always afraid whenever his mother was around.

“Before my daddy died, he said he would tell me his story. But whenever my mum came home, he became afraid. I asked him why, but he never gave an answer,” the boy recounted.

He explained that before the fatal fight that led to their deaths, his parents had played and prayed together with the family, giving the impression that all was well between them.

“My father came home around 9 p.m. that day. He refused to eat because my mum wasn’t back yet. But when she finally arrived, they played together. They were talking, laughing, and even telling us stories,” he stated.

After spending time with the family, the boy said his father picked up his Bible, and they all had their night prayers before heading for bed.

According to the boy, chaos erupted in the middle of the night. “I started hearing the sound of a cutlass,” the boy said.

Providing further details, he continued, “I quickly woke my sister up, and we tried to get into their room, but they had locked the door. My sister ran outside, picked up a big stone, and hit it against the door, but it didn’t open still. Meanwhile, we could still hear our dad and mum screaming at each other. So, we ran to the next house to get help from the boys living there.”

“But there was silence by the time we returned. The boys forced the door open, and we found our parents lying on the floor, covered in blood. The boys rushed them to the hospital.”

A resident of the area, who spoke about the incident, corroborated the boy’s narrative.

“From what I saw, it looked like they had a serious disagreement, but no one can say for sure. It seemed as if the woman cut off the man’s private part, and in retaliation, he inflicted a fatal wound on her. Nobody knows exactly what happened, but that’s what I suspect,” the source said.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, stated that law enforcement authorities had launched an investigation into the matter.

Wunmi Aloba, the widow of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has alleged that her father-in-law, Joseph Aloba, has taken the side of Naira Marley, one of the friends of her late husband accused of bullying him prior to his death.

Wunmi made this claim when she appeared as a guest on the With Chude show during the week.

She said, “I knew he reacted to an injection and the fact that at the end of the autopsy, it came out inconclusive just because of the one mistake my father-in-law made, which was burying him. This is one thing I don’t want to accept. Liam will grow up and see all of these things one day and he will ask me questions, and the story will not be interesting if, at the end of the day, there was no justice for his father.

“The fact that he was bullied by his oppressors, and up till this moment, nothing has been done.  Liam will see the bullying that happened to his father, which was what brought the world out for justice. Even though the police promised they would bring them to justice, nothing has been done up till this moment.

“You know you don’t have to kill somebody with a sword before you kill him. They cannot deny the fact that they made life unbearable for my husband. A lot of people everywhere might be supporting them in bashing me so that  I wouldn’t talk about the bullying but the few clips online cannot be erased and Liam will grow up to see all of those things.”

“And his father, (Joseph Aloba) has been on Naira Marley’s side. He has been speaking for them and trying to save them for reasons best known to him, so who am I? The ‘justice for Mohbad’ my father-in-law is asking for is not the same justice the public is asking for.

She also voiced fears that her son might be traumatised when he grows up and learns about all that happened to his father.

“I pray Liam doesn’t grow up traumatised from seeing what happened to his father. Imaging witnessing a group of people beating his father that way, it is traumatizing. Even me, whenever I think about those things, they break me but at this point, I’m fighting for my life and that of my child.”

Referring to the alleged bully, she said, “One thing I will tell him is that even if the whole world does not believe what I have been saying, you know deep down that you maltreated my husband. It has got to a point when I will speak up and not die in silence.”

Former Military Head of State, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, IBB, has admitted that he feared that the presumed winner of June 12 presidential election, late chief MKO Abiola, might not be an effective president.

IBB said that the military was factionalised into rival groups between those opposed to the transition to civil rule and those who thought the military should keep its word and hand over to a democratically elected government.

In his just launched book, ‘A Journey in Service’, the former military Head of State recounted how tensions in the country were compounded by conspiracy theories meant to justify the annulment.

He said: “Tensions in the country were compounded by baseless conspiracy theories meant to justify the annulment. One such theory was that Abiola had pencilled down a list of top military officers to be dismissed upon assuming office as president.

“Another conspiracy theory was that the government had let the June 12 elections go ahead in the knowledge, based on security reports, that Tofa would
win. However, once Abiola won, the government sought a way to
frustrate his mandate.

“These were spurious theories circulated by those opposed to an Abiola presidency. Some persons indeed expressed their reservations about an Abiola presidency before the elections. There were times
when, deep down inside me, even I feared that Abiola might not be an effective president.

“However, having allowed the process to go ahead in which Abiola appeared to have emerged victorious in an
election deemed the freest and fairest in our country’s history, I was committed to ensuring that the results should stand. To do otherwise would amount to a subversion of the will of the Nigerian people.”

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has failed to remit N13.763 trillion in revenue to the Federation account.

This is according to a document obtained from the Federal Accounts Allocation Committee after its January 2025 meeting on Wednesday.

The unremitted revenue covers a period between 2012 and 2024, indicating concerns between NNPCL’s revenue from crude sales and what is remitted to the Federation account.

Accordingly, the document showed that out of N27.28 trillion payable from sales of domestic crude within the period, only N13.524 trillion was deposited into the Federation account, leaving N13.763 trillion unremitted.

The development follows a recent accusation by the Auditor-General of the Federation, which claimed that NNPCL diverted a total sum of N2.68 trillion and $9.77 trillion in the last four years.

Similarly, the Nigeria Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative also accused the NNPCL of failing to remit N3.6 trillion in taxes to the government.

The Public Accounts Committee had initiated an investigation into the outstanding debts worth $1.6 billion in royalties owed to the Federation Account by NNPCL and oil companies.

The Naira has continued its appreciation streak against the dollar at the parallel foreign exchange market.

This comes as the Naira strengthened to N1,500 against the dollar in the black market on Thursday from N1,505 exchanged on Wednesday.

A Bureau de Change operator in Wuse Zone 4, Abubakar Alhasan, told DAILY POST that “dollars are sold at a minimum rate of N1,500 per dollar on Thursday from N1,505 the previous day.”.

This showed that the Naira gained N5 against the dollar compared to N1505 traded on Wednesday.

DAILY POST reports that the Naira has maintained sustained appreciation at the parallel FX market.

Meanwhile, at the official market, the Naira stood at N1,509.03 per dollar as of Wednesday from N1,507.2 traded on Tuesday this week, according to the Central Bank of Nigeria’s official data.

The rate across FX markets showed that the discrepancy or difference has been eroded, resulting in FX rate convergence.

Nigeria benchmarked its N54.9 trillion 2025 annual budget yet to be signed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at N1500 per dollar mark.

This is also as the CBN Monetary Policy Committee agreed to pause interest hikes in Nigeria.

Omowunmi Aloba, widow of late Nigerian music star Mohbad, has revealed how she met the late singer.

The mother of one disclosed that she met Mohbad 12 years ago when they were both teenagers on social media app 2Go.

She stated they began their relationship as friends before progressing to lovers.

Speaking in a recent interview with TVC, Omowunmi said, “I met him when I was 13 on 2Go. That was 12 years ago. I used to be a rapper and he sang, too, so we started as friends. We were very young then. He was 15. He proposed relationship to me and I accepted. We later got married and had a child together.”

Mohbad died on 12 September 2023, and less than 24 hours after his tragic passing, his father, Joseph Aloba, buried him in Ikorodu, Lagos State.
His body was exhumed on 21 September for an autopsy due to controversies surrounding his death.

The results of the autopsy are still pending but the father of the deceased, Joseph Aloba, has previously stated that the body of the singer would only be reburied when the autopsy results are released and a DNA test is conducted on his grandson, Liam, to ascertain his true paternity.

Controversial Nigerian actor, Yul Edochie has accused any woman kicking against DNA test for her children of hiding something.

The actor made the assertion in a post on his Instagram page on Friday.

While advising men not to fall for any justifications provided by such a woman, Edochie noted that a clear conscience has nothing to be scared of.

“Any woman who refuses to do a DNA test on her child when it is demanded, is hiding something. Don’t fall for any excuse she gives to you. She is hiding something. A clear conscience fears nothing.”

This is coming months after the ex-husband of Judy Austin, who is Yul Edochie’s second wife, accused her of going out with the actor while still married to his.

Reacting to her former husband, Obasi, Judy denied the allegation, stating that he met Yul after her separation from her first marriage.

Nigerian model and Mr Nigeria 2024, Ugo Nwokolo, has revealed that he paid N5 million to appear on ‘The Honest Bunch’ podcast, hosted by On Air Personality (OAP) Nedu Wazobia, only to be manipulated into making controversial statements to drive traffic for show online.

Recall that Nwokolo had in January faced a backlash over his controversial statement on The Honest Bunch that he was attracted to poor girls.

But, speaking in an interview on Lucky Udu’s podcast, Nwokolo revealed that he initially sought the podcast as a platform to discuss ‘eradicating classism and fostering an egalitarian society’ ahead of representing Nigeria in an international pageant in Poland. However, he alleged that Nedu dictated the narrative for virality, pressuring him to adopt a more sensational approach.

He also said that Nedu made a reference to a social media personality Saidaboj, whom he claimed he popularised through the show, adding that he was also asked to mention the name of a social media critic, VeryDarkMan, in the course of the show.

“Nedu told me, ‘This thing wey you dey talk na big grammar. Nigerians are dumb, they don’t like people that sound intelligent. You are not Peter Obi. For your message to fly, you have to sound dumb,’” Nwokolo said, adding that he reluctantly agreed due to his inexperience in media.

Days before the recording of the show, he alleged that Nedu introduced a ‘last-minute co-guest’ despite their agreement for a solo appearance. After some negotiations, he was promised a N2 million refund, which, he claimed, never materialised.

On the day of the podcast, Nwokolo said he asked to review the discussion flow but was instead pressured to make a sensational statement. “Nedu insisted, saying, ‘This is my program, and I call the shots.’ He even told me I had to mention VeryDarkMan to make the show trend,” he said.

According to Nwokolo, Nedu specifically instructed him to say, “Poor girls turn me on. The poorer the girl, the more attracted I am to her.” Nwokolo said he initially resisted but eventually agreed due to financial constraints, having spent money travelling from Abuja to Lagos for the show.

Following the interview, Nwokolo said he faced severe public backlash, with some branding him manipulative, controlling, and even a ritualist. “I take full responsibility for my actions, but I was forced and manipulated into making that statement,” he admitted.

He described Nedu as a new discovery of manipulation saying, “In my lifetime, I’ve met Manipulators, Narcissists, Gaslighters and I’ve met scammers, but Nedu is a discovery.”

Describing the experience as a hard lesson, Nwokolo expressed regret over trusting Nedu’s advice, stating, “Before we started, he told me, ‘Even Saidaboj, I told her what to say, and now she’s popular.’ I believed him, and that’s how I found myself in this mess.”

Thirty-two years after the famous annulment of the June 12 presidential election in Nigeria, former military president Ibrahim Babangida has disclosed that the annulment of the election was done for “national interest.”

Naija News reports IBB made the disclosure on Thursday, 20th February, 2025 in Abuja, during the launch of his autobiography, titled “A Journey in Service.”

According to him, the decision to annul the election, which was widely believed to have been won by businessman, Chief Moshood Abiola, as a candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), was taken in national interest and survival of the country.

“As the leader of the military administration, I accept full responsibility for all decisions taken by me. And June 12 happened under my watch. Mistakes, oversights, and missteps happen in quick succession but I say in my book, in all matters, we acted in extreme national interest so that Nigeria could survive,” the former military president said at the event.

I Regret The Interruption Of Democracy

Babangida disclosed that he regrets that Nigeria couldn’t return to democracy under his watch, but added that what has been achieved thereafter is a testament to the resilience of the country and its citizens.

“Our nation’s march to democracy was interrupted, a fact that I deeply regret. But Nigeria survived and democracy is still alive, a testament to our resilience and commitment to progress. This book is part of my personal story with national history,” Babangida added.

Fasting rising singer, Owodunni Ibrahim, popularly known as Prime Boy, has sued the mother of his late best friend, Mohbad, Abosede Adeyemo, to court over alleged defamation.

Naija News reports that Prime Boy shared the legal document filed at the High Court of Lagos State, Ikeja, via his Instagram page on Wednesday, February 19 2025.

Prime Boy sued Abosede for allegedly making libellous and malicious remarks about him in a video interview on March 28, 2024.

According to the document dated February 12 2025, Abosede’s comments, published in several news media, were designed to defame him in the eyes of members of the public.

Prime Boy further claimed that Mohbad’s mother is liable for ₦50 million in damages for the libellous, injurious, falsehood, and malicious statements made against him.

In other news, the father of the late Mohbad, Joseph Aloba, has expressed reservations about the police officers investigating the death of his son.

Naija News reports that it is almost one year and five months since Mohbad passed away, and his father has continued to advocate for justice for his late son.

In an interview with BBC Pidgin on Wednesday, Joseph revealed that the police asked him to ignore the call for justice and lay his son to rest.

Mohbad’s father called on the government to take over the case, stressing that he has the right to know the circumstances surrounding his son’s death.
